Campsite should have an automatic ‘check for updates’ feature that would ping a server at Campware to check if it is running the latest version. If it is not, the admin user should have a message displayed showing
– current version installed
– the version available
– a link to more info on the version available
– a link to download the newest version
– voluntary information about the instance if the user wants to report it
This feature could also provide reporting on the number of Campsite installations there are because it could include a unique identifier for the Campsite instance, which would be anonymously reported to a Campware server.
If the user decides to fill out the voluntary information, this information could automatically be fed to a new ‘Who’s using’ page.
‘Check for Updates’ could be installed and turned on by default, but users should have the ability to shut if off.
