Description by maroy:

the function needs to return the current audio signal level for the line-out interface, for each channel separately. also, as this information will be polled frequently, look into the possibility of having a permament XML-RPC connection, that regularly emits the new VU level value. the interface to check the level for should be configurable. use Helix (if possible) to tell the level, or ALSA if necessary.
